Amazon and Apple, along with distributors Paramount and Warner Bros., are competing for the rights to Joseph Kosinski’s new film

Joseph Kosinski can boast, among other things, about Top Gun: Maverick, which wrapped up its theatrical run with nearly $1.5 billion in total earnings in 2022. His latest film, F1, starring Brad Pitt, is shaping up to be one of next summer’s most anticipated releases. But that doesn’t mean the director is taking a break—on the contrary. His newest project has sparked a fierce bidding war among streaming platforms and Hollywood distributors, even though it doesn’t even have a finalized title yet.

Described as “All the President’s Men” with UFOs, the project is produced by the ever-present Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the most influential producers in American cinema history. The screenplay is penned by Zach Baylin, who earned an Oscar nomination for his very first feature script, King Richard, and was also behind one of last year’s most well-received films, The Order.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Grusch, a former U.S. Air Force officer who made headlines with high-profile claims that the U.S. government has studied extraterrestrial spacecraft and alien bodies, is serving as a consultant on the project.

Depending on how many millions streaming platforms or distributors are willing to pay, audiences may see the film either at home or in theaters. The project is still in its early production stages, so there’s no word yet on casting or even a potential filming start date. Meanwhile, another major UFO-related project is currently in development—Steven Spielberg’s upcoming feature, set for release next year.
