The new Daredevil, the most violent series in Marvel history?

Ten years ago, Daredevil proved that the eternal battle between good and evil could be both relevant and thrilling—provided you found the right tone. That was precisely the case with the Netflix series that pitted the superhero Daredevil (Charlie Cox) against the ruthless crime lord Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), each willing to go to any lengths to win a confrontation that was about more than just the safety of New Yorkers or control over a criminal empire.

Daredevil: Born Again premieres on March 4 on Disney+, and showrunner Dario Scardapane promises a level of violence never before seen in a Marvel series. And Scardapane knows what he’s talking about—he was also behind The Punisher, another Marvel series renowned for its explicit brutality.

In a statement to the British publication Empire, Scardapane said: “The level of violence is unprecedented in a Marvel/Disney production. I don’t think there’s anything even close. We even have a sequence that is literally insane, far beyond anything ever seen on Netflix.” D’Onofrio echoed his words, stating that reviving the legendary conflict between Daredevil and Kingpin is “darker, more action-packed, and more brutal.”

Daredevil: Born Again will consist of nine episodes, with the finale set to air in early May. Notably, its schedule aligns with the premiere of Thunderbolts, which releases globally on May 2. There’s a strong possibility of narrative overlap between the two productions, potentially amplifying each other’s impact. We already know that at the start of Daredevil: Born Again, Kingpin is the newly elected mayor of New York—a city that is set to face a devastating attack in Thunderbolts.
